The Lismore Diocesan Tennis Gala Day was eventually held on Tuesday, 12 March, at South Tweed Heads. Well done to all teams who participated on the day, with some great tennis played throughout the day. All the best to the open winners, St Mary’s, Casino (boys) and Mount St Patrick College, Murwillumbah (girls), as they will now attend the CCC teams’ tennis at Bathurst. Thank you to Madeline Ilic (convener) for organising a great day’s tennis.

Congratulations to St John’s College, Woodlawn (both boys and girls) tennis teams who attended the CCC Championships. Unfortunately, Mount St Patrick College, Murwillumbah, Open Girls’ Team withdrew, and Woodlawn girls being the runner-up team, were eager to attend the CCC Championships. The weather conditions in Bathurst were poor throughout the day (cold and wet), and eventually, play needed to be suspended, although semi-finalists were determined. Unfortunately, the Lismore teams from Woodlawn College missed the finals but enjoyed the experience against quality tennis players.
Below is part of the convener’s report from the 2022 CCC tennis teams championships.
Of the tennis played on the day, it was sensational. So many good matches, and these were often very close. A huge congratulations to all involved. It was a very cold 2022 Teams event.
In the afternoon, the semi-finals started and were looking pretty promising with the weather. Unfortunately, wet weather just before 2 pm and then at 3 pm, a downpour of ice in the freezing temps resulted in the carnival needing to stop.
The carnival could not finish, nor could there be a selection of the winning NSWCCC school teams to progress to the National tournament run by Tennis Australia in November. As a result, CSNSW allowed the following on Monday, 6 June, at the Parramatta tennis centre.
6 June Parramatta Tennis Centre (Barton Street North Parramatta)
9 am – Finish semi-finals for Girls: OLMC Parramatta v Santa Sabina, and Boys: St Columbas, Springwood v Edmund Rice Wollongong (Winners to progress to GF).
11 am – Grand Final of Girls: St Mary’s Star of the Sea Wollongong v winning girls semi; and Boys Grand final: St Augustine’s v winning boys semi.
The Lismore Diocesan Tennis Gala Day was eventually held on Thursday, 28 April, at Tweed Heads. Like most sporting events in the Lismore Diocese, tennis was postponed due to major flooding. Well done to all teams who participated in the day, with some great tennis played throughout the day. All the best to the open winners, St John’s College, Lismore (Boys) and Mount St Patrick College, Murwillumbah (Girls), as they will now attend the CCC teams’ tennis at Bathurst. Thank you to Madeline Ilic (convener) for organising a great day’s tennis.
